Hey there, art friends.

I’m Lucy Wilson, a visual artist from Aotearoa New Zealand. I work predominantly in acrylic and drawn media and utilise a loose style that always delivers a little bit of the unexpected.
I work from my home studio in Auckland where I create amidst the joy and chaos of life with two small children. I love that my kids see every success and failure, and through my creative practice I am modelling courage, optimism and resilience.
I’m drawn to the way light interacts with our natural world and, for as long as I can remember, I have used the observance of light and colour as a way to ground myself in any given moment. I guess it’s a kind of mindfulness, but for me it has simply been about looking, seeing and appreciating our natural spaces.
By bringing this practice into my recent works (which feature vibrant botanical forms) I found the permission needed to observe and participate in the act of creating without always being in absolute control of what’s happening by my hand. The results often surprise and spark my curiosity to keep going, if only to see what happens next.
Welcome to my humble corner of the internet. It’s nice to have you here.
x Lucy
